Ella Cara Deloria

Deloria grew op on an Indian Reservation in South Dakota. Like Hurston, she studied her own culture in order to combat ideas surrounding racism and the divide between whites and others. She helped Boas interview Native Americans, and together they wrote "Dakota Grammar" on the language and culture of her people. Deloria also wrote many of her people's oral stories and traditions, and acted as an ideal middle man for understanding their language and culture. She is most well known for her knowledge of several native languages, as well as her role as an excellent teacher of native history and tradition.
